The Fragments basalt series uses residual columnar basalt from the Columbia River Basalt Group, a continental flood basalt province spanning over 200,000 km2 across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada. These columns were created by erupting lava flows between 6 and 17 million years ago. This series transforms found basalt off-cuts into sculptural functional and non-functional assemblies that explore the tension between nature and industry.
